Sterling Rope and Vertical Art Dance Team Up To Promote Growth of Aerial Arts in Climbing Gyms
Biddeford, ME – Sterling Rope Company, Inc. is collaborating with Vertical Art Dance Co., an aerial arts program developer and retailer owned by Summer Davies. In concert with Darren Jeffrey, co-owner of Alpine Training Services (ATS), Vertical Art Dance Co. services all aspects of aerial performance. Sterling has worked with Jeffrey and ATS on innovative products for canyoneering and climbing and is working closely with Davies and Jeffrey to provide innovative and modern rigging solutions to the aerial industry.
Summer Davies is a vertical dancer and an aerial yoga and dance instructor who is advising Sterling on aerial products and systems. Darren Jeffrey is co-owner of Alpine Training Services and specializes in design/ build products and rigging for the international entertainment industry building TV shows like “American Ninja Warrior” and “The Amazing Race”.
“Every gym owner is looking for the next trend to keep their members engaged,” says Jeffrey. “The aerial arts are a great opportunity to provide a value-add service to the community. Depending on the insurance carrier, the climbing gym should be able to add on aerial arts as an activity to their current policy. It also maximizes square footage in the open space climbing gyms already have. The interest is there; aerial arts and aerial yoga are growing, and we are glad we can provide all the educational support and resources for climbing gyms to introduce these programs.”
“Originally, aerial artists rigged with traditional climbing and industrial rigging equipment such as daisy chains, rescue 8’s, often overloading carabiners, which aren’t always ideal,” says Davies. “We’ve found an opportunity to create rope and rigging systems specifically for the modern aerial arts community by designing creative hardware and employing Sterling’s pioneering rope, sewn cord and hardware products,” says Jeffrey. Vertical Art Dance and Sterling Rope have identified the rigging needs and assembled a series of “kits” for beginners through professionals that include Sterling’s CanyonTech™ rope, F4™ descent device, Hollow blocks™ and Chain Reactors™. With Sterling’s innovative and durable products, classes are more rewarding for both teachers and students.
Sterling and Vertical Art Dance will be exhibiting at the CWA Climbing Wall Summit in Boulder, CO on May 29th and 30th to answer questions about aerial rigging and conduct demonstrations of vertical art dance.
