Rock Exotica RockSteel Auto-Lock Carabiner

Rock Exotica RockSteel Auto-Lock Carabiner

from $47.50

The Rock Exotica rockSteel Auto-lock offers an impressive strength to weight ratio, a large gate opening and precise handling characteristics due to CNC machined surfaces. Professionals appreciate the smooth operating three-stage autolocking mechanism and smooth keylock surface that won't snag your rope.

Autolocking or selflocking carabiners have a spring-loaded barrel that closes over the gate when released. This type of locking carabiner offers a little more security in the system over screwgate carabiners, but all carabiners should be second checked.

The rockSteel offers a surprising strength-to-weight ratio in a carabiner of its capacity. Most steel carabiners are made from 1/2 diameter steel. We use a lighter, 7/16” diameter steel that is heat treated for added strength. Like our aluminum carabiners, the rockSteel frames are CNC machined for precise fittings and exact tolerances. The result is a carabiner with a high strength-to-weight ratio, keylock snag-resistant nose and a feel like no other steel carabiner in the world. The rockSteel carabiner is ANSI Z359.12 (09) and NFPA G compliant. The gate/sleeve is rated at 16kN or 3600 lbs, to protect against inward force against gate.

  • Large frame, with large, 1.2" gate opening

  • Impressively strong, yet lightweight

  • Rated for inward gate force

Tech Tip: Instead of using a carabiner, which can be up to 70% weaker than expected when improperly loaded, consider using a screw link. A screw link is stronger and more durable than a carabiner, providing greater safety when loaded in multiple directions. Additionally, its smaller overall frame size makes it an ideal choice for rigging in confined spaces. The primary downside of a screw link is the action required to open and close it; in some cases, it may necessitate the use of a wrench. While a carabiner offers the ease of quick opening and closing for rigging needs, we typically use screw links in locations that do not require frequent access, reserving carabiners for situations where they are necessary.
